Mare Crisium and Mare Fecunditatis. The moon at sunset (through binoculars) from Firle Beacon (not through bins). Sketched whilst under attack from giant horse flies (too scary to be featured – with, or without bins).

The red lights are on, the sky is clear and the moon is conspicuously absent. Perfect stargazing conditions at the Herstmonceux astronomy festival this weekend.
Time to sketch Dome A at twilight, before admiring a staggeringly clear Milky Way, Saturn’s rings and Jupiter’s Galilean moons. I had to eat a Mars bar to come back down to Earth!
So cool!
